This tempts me to smoke only to see if, indeed, “no smoking alarm will sound.”
And if one does, to see how they hold me accountable for not assuming their comma.

I wonder what would happen if you just lit the cigarette and did not actual smoke it. Would the alarm still sound? Is it the actual act of smoking that they do not want or the presence of smoke in general? Are the powers that be concerned about the general health of the people around the sign or they just don’t care for the smell?
just don’t inhale.
Was this sign hanging in the English pub where Bill Clinton smoked, but did not inhale?
