Sitting in a rock bar the other night, watching Brazil lose to the Netherlands, I was enjoying some ear-pounding rock tunes and it struck me that some songs are so iconic, so prevalent and so natural sounding that it is hard to imagine them not existing.

I know the world existed before “Final Countdown” and “Eye of the Tiger” and “Money for Nothing”, but it seems hard to imagine.

These songs are not that old, and I am not really even that big of a fan of them, but I can’t imagine what it would be like if they didn’t exist.

Are there any songs that give you the feeling that they’ve existed forever?

Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons”, which really isn’t a song, but work with me here, and Pink Floyd’s “Us and Them”.

    “Jingle Bells”
