Do you like the idea of exercise but don’t care much for actually sweating and feeling exhausted?  Do you wish there was a way to enjoy the satisfaction of post-work-out relaxation without having to do the actual working out?

Allow me to suggest that you pick up a pair of Athleisure shoes. While I don’t know how widely available they are, I can tell you that this pair of Athleisure shoes was purchased at Target .

If you’re wondering what these performance-oriented, yet comfortable, shoes look like, please refer to the picture below, where I’m demonstrating a typical athleisure activity.

When I have stopped laughing, I may be able to construct a _serious_ response to this. :-)

Until then, please indulge my curiosity… Is this another one in the line of the kinds of MBT (Masai Barefoot Technology!) shoes, which promise to ‘accelerate’ one’s fitness regime somehow; or the ‘Powerplate’ nonsense in gyms where you can see many people of a certain kind (starts with ‘l’ and is a four-letter word); or those, who think the solution to obesity will be in a pill? I guess so…

Those Athleisure shoes look a lot like the ones I just took off my own feet. Geez, here I was thinking I was cool and now I am starting to think maybe I am not … Are you making fun of me?

    @ Shefaly

I don’t think this particular shoe promises anything fantastic, other than to keep your foot comfortable at a price that your wallet finds comfortable. It was simply labeled “Athleisure” in our nearby Target store.

    @ Liam

While I can not possibly make a judgment regarding your “cool”-ness, this post was really focused on the fact that the shoes were specifically labeled for “Athleisure” activities.

Personally I think athleisure shoes are great, because they fill a gaping hole in the shoe line. They provide an option for either the times when one is just relaxing, but a little physical activity is involved or one is playing sports, but one is not trying very hard.

@ Conall – Well, it is okay that I wear my own ‘Athleisure’ shoes in the work place?

The Wise Geek seems to think so:

They cannot beat slippers. And is the bike purely for show?

    @ Conall

Thanks for the note. I am beginning to think there is nothing like ‘it does what it says on the tin’ anymore… :-(

    @ mom

I agree, slippers are great! Any reader of CMD can tell how highly we think of slippers.

The bike in the photo is there because, as far as I can tell, these shoes are meant to be worn you’re close to being athletic, but not quite (i.e. kicking back and using a bike as a footrest!).

I think the Athleisure shoes are also for making the wearer look sporty. That’s why I wear them, even though I only exercise once a week (whether I need it or not!)
