The steps of erudition

Guess what, chickenmonkeydogians (tip hat to Reader Steve)? We’ve a guest post today. Yeah! Happy Friday to us all.
Today’s photo-post came to us from a Milwaukee reader who captured a curious sign in South Bend, Indiana:

So, the question is, how could a stairway know to be cautious in the area of that sign since stairways can’t read?!? Ha-ha.
Passage to a different dimension?
Posted 3 Dec 2008
Wandering through the English countryside, I noticed this little gate. It was not attached to any fence and I could see no significant difference between the land on one side of the gate and the other.

Upon closer inspection I saw this sign upon the gate:

That made me laugh! I didn’t understand why there was a need to keep the gate closed, when one could easily walk around it. Only later did it dawn on me…
Clearly this gate must be a portal to another dimension! What else can explain the lack of a fence on either side? There is no need for a fence when the gate itself is the only way in. Alas, I didn’t think of this until much later, when I was reviewing my photos, so I can not report any extraordinary findings from a trip through the gate. Next time I pass that way I’ll step through and let you know what I discover.
Hunt the vandals with helicopters

On London’s Tube (subway) you can see these signs:

The relevant text in the above photo is as follows:
If you see a train being vandalized call the British Transport Police
Note the graphics on the sign though, a helicopter and a CCTV camera. Safe to assume that this means the British Transport Police are prepared to send a helicopter into the tunnels beneath London to crack down on vandalism? And CCTV - isn’t the point of that to always be recording? Are they waiting for my call to instruct them to turn the cameras on and let them know where to point them?

The Cliffs of Moher are amazing and breath-taking. Where the Atlantic ocean hits Ireland, these cliffs provide one of Ireland’s most popular tourist attractions.

To cope with the hundreds of thousands of visitors that come each year, the cliff edge has been protected by a wall and warning signs abound of the dangers.

Visitors to the cliffs are admonished to avoid karate-kicking the wall blocking access to the cliff edge.

Come close to read the small text explaining what the extreme danger is, only to realize the warning indicates that the cliff you now are standing on is “Extremely Unstable”.

Hopefully you readers can provide some thoughts on what this last warning sign might mean. Please help!
