The image here was released by the FBI to aid in the capture of a man suspected of robbing a bank in the suburbs of Chicago yesterday.

How many bank robberies will have to occur, do you think, before banks stop putting the cameras up above eye level and instead place them on the desks, so they can capture faces?

A related query. Why are banks still using such terrible video cameras? The photos and clips are always granulated and blurry. I think my laptop and possibly even my cell phone could capture better video! Or do the police simply not release the top quality images?

On a recent vacation, I made a decision not to speak of the US Debt Crisis and, more importantly, not to watch or listen to any news about it. I avoided TV news broadcasts, radio programs and the new websites. It was one of my most relaxing holidays ever.

It got me to thinking, “How nice would it be if all news outlets took a two-week break from reporting on politics?” Think about it. We would hear more about art, literature, music, and maybe … just maybe … something about the average man or woman living a normal life. Wouldn’t that be refreshing?

The governor of Wisconsin, Scott Walker, is apparently making the news for various political reasons. Rather than focus on the rightness or wrongness of Scott Walker’s views, I’d like to discuss his lunch.

According to the New York Times, Scott Walker has been carrying the same bagged lunch to work for years:

It’s pretty gross to think that he has been carrying the same two ham and cheese sandwiches on wheat bread around for so darned long. They must be moldy and stinky for sure!

In the run up to Christmas, I am getting a bit tired of trying to be so nice.

If I knew where I stood on St. Nick’s list, I could rest a bit easier (if I was listed as ‘nice’) or — if necessary — I could pick up the pace (if I was described as ‘naughty’).

Dear Readers,

We have some big news to announce today! We wish we could say it is GOOD news, but let’s just say it is BIG!

Our brilliant friend and humorist Meg, who joined CMD as an author just about one year ago, is moving on to see what else the world of online creative writing has to offer. We’ve had an absolute blast having her on board and enjoyed the Meg-twist on our quirky outlook.

Please join us in wishing Meg a fond farewell! We hope she’ll continue to contribute by submitting guest posts (just like all of our readers can, including you)!

And with a flap of the wing, a beating of the chest, and a wag of the tail we at chickenmonkeydog wish Meg all the best!

The new year has been so hectic that we’ve neglected to share our celebrations with our wonderful readers. To correct that, we’re sharing now.

Earlier this month, we celebrated the publication of our 500th post! That’s 500 musings, ponderings and conversations on the little aspects of life that catch us by surprise, make us think or that perhaps, just perhaps, make us say ‘Hmmmm …’.

In thinking about our ’500′, we wondered about other significant 500s. Here’s what we came up with:

Indianapolis 500 – very important to auto-racing fans

500 pennies – not so very valuable anymore

Apparently, the Year 500 was a leap year

Fortune 500 companies are pretty big

So, what other 500s can you add to our list?

P.S. Thanks for hanging with us for the first 500. Here’s to the next 500!
