Is it just me or does this ice skater (part of the Google search page illustration) look like she has her tongue sticking out? Is this a subliminal message about the Vancouver games?
Thanks to a sharp-eyed reader in Michigan for spotting this and submitting the screen-shot to chickenmonkeydog. We LOVE to get submitted pictures and stories about the quirky events in your lives to share with the CMD community!
Going the distance – for soap

A reader from Milwaukee submitted this query to the CMD community:
I have noticed lately that girls, when in a public bathroom and at a sink that is not close to the soap dispenser will “wash” their hands using just water.
Having noticed it once, I now seem to see it everywhere.
Is this just a disgusting habit of the people in my locality or does this occur everywhere? I hope you can help clear up the confusion.
We’ve written quite a bit about washing hands. We always get a great response from our community and I am sure we can clear this up as well. So good reader, what do you think? Is it a distance-from-soap-dispenser based decision that drives this behavior?
From a guy’s perspective I can assure you that “no hand washing” and “water-only hand washing” is quite prevalent everywhere I’ve been in the world.
Though I am a proponent of thorough and soap-enhanced hand washing, I must admit that the disgusting state in which many establishments keep their bathrooms frequently makes me wonder if my hands aren’t getting MORE dirty by touching the faucet handle and soap dispensers.
Cheating the leftovers

A devoted and loyal reader in the Chicago area submitted the following comments:
I was thinking the other day that there are some foods that I like better as leftovers than on the first time around. Take spaghetti. I like it enough when it is just cooked, but give me some left over spaghetti and that is even better than recently cooked. Lasagna and turkey too.
This raises a couple of questions for me:
1. If a person made the meal and just put it in the fridge and subsequently served it, would it still maintain all the benefits of leftovers that made me like it in the first place?
2. Does it matter if I was a party to the original meal? So the food was cooked and served and leftover stored and I take my first crack at it as leftovers. Same effect?
3. Are there any beverages that are tastier as “leftovers”?

Fishing sure is fun!

One of our loyal readers from the US was recently on a trip way on down south, all the way to New Zealand! Upon returning to the northern hemisphere, she sent over a photo of a fishing shop that that she encountered.

Now we like holding poles over water and trying to entice fish to have a little something to eat, but we’re inclined to agreed with our reader that Stu’s fishing experience is a bit much.
What say you? How much fun do you have while fishing?

Is “drinkability” a good thing?

A loyal reader from Chicago emailed in some thoughts about Budweiser’s current advertising campaign:
Budweiser has been running ads for a while now proclaiming the “Drinkability” of their beer.
As an advertisement, it seems that this sets a very low standard for the brewer to achieve. Would you buy a car that advertised “drivability”? Just that it is able to be driven…..
What about a restaurant that advertises “edibility”? You can eat our food. Again, that seems to be a pretty low standard.
Do beer drinkers have such low standards that they will drink any beer capable of being drunk? Surely these same people would not be swayed into buying a car because it is simply drive-able or eat food simply because it is edible.
Any thoughts?
