The sickish yellow of decaying food

For the record, I brush my teeth. I floss too. Regularly. I am told by dentistry professionals that I have nice chompers. No cavities. (I thought I should start this post with this declaration.)
When I floss my teeth, I notice that the little bits of food that get pulled out from their hiding places by the dental floss are always a sallow, gross yellow. Whether I had burgers, chicken, pasta, or soup, the stuck bits of food are always a similarly disgusting hue of yellow.
Why is that? It’s pretty gross.
Ants like crazy big food

Yesterday I ate lunch outside, dropping a part of a potato chip on the ground at some point during the meal. A few minutes after the meal was cleared away, I noticed a massive swarm of ants carting away the fallen potato chip. Recalling our previous discussions of big food, I scooted off my chair and I climbed down close to inspect the ant’s grocery run.
Wow! The number of ants that had gathered to clear away the chip was well over 20 and probably closer to 50. They were scurrying over and under the chip, moving it slowly but steadily down the crack in the concrete patio.
Watching the ants carry away the food, I was surprised by the thought of trying to get that big of a piece of food home. Can you imagine finding a potato chip big enough to require 20+ people to help you carry it? Would you want to eat the chip, or would you be grossed out by its size?
Also, I wondered how the ants were going to get the chip ‘in the door’ of their anthill. Would they just cart it home and then call of the other ants out to the ‘front yard’ for a mother of a feast?
Fast Food. Big Food.

On a drive across the country last week I stopped off at a gas-station to fuel my car and eat some lunch. Along with my sandwich and fries, I ordered a MEDIUM Coke. Medium, it turns out, is still a whole lot of soda.

The cup is twice as tall as my palm.
There was no estimate of the fluid ounces in the cup, but my thirst was definitely more than quenched.
I think I would have enjoyed that much to drink if it was water or juice, or if I didn’t have to get back in the driver’s seat for a few more hours. In the moment though it sure seemed like a massive portion of Coke, especially since the drink was just a “medium”. It turns out that fast food also equals a lot of food.

The Return of the Cane

Recent studies have shown that high fructose corn syrup leads to obesity. Some companies are acting quickly to satisfy consumer needs and profit on the trend away from high fructose corn syrup. But what is their magical ingredient, you ask? Oh wait, yes, sugar.

If only they’d put it back into Coca-Cola so my rum and Coke tasted good again.
As an aside, would it be “rum and Cokes” or “rums and Cokes” or “rum-and-cokes”?
