Possibly overheard today within the chickenmonkeydog.com editorial office:

<begin conversation>

Technical Editor: So, what’s the post gonna be for today? Do you have anything in particular you want to publish?

Creative Editor: Nope. Hope ’bout you? Anything you want to see on there today?

Technical Editor: Well, let’s look at our drafts. Have you looked through those? Any jump out at you?

Creative Editor: Um … nothing seemed brilliant. Probably why they are still drafts.

Technical Editor: Ok. Well, let’s see. Maybe we should do something different today. Out of the ordinary. Unexpected. Quirky.

Creative Editor: (sounding skeptical) Like what?

Technical Editor: Me, Technical Editor. You, Creative Editor.

Creative Editor: Hmm … back to me then. So much for my punt.

Technical Editor: (interrupting) Hey!

Creative Editor: What?

Technical Editor: Never mind. Silly idea.

Creative Editor: Ok …

(Long pause)

Creative Editor: Got it!

Technical Editor: What?

Creative Editor: An idea! I have an idea for today’s post.

Technical Editor: Great! Let’s hear it.

Creative Editor: We ask our readers to tell us what to talk about today. We ask then an open-ended question and they reply in the comments. We open the doors to a conversation … and just wait to see where it goes.

Technical Editor: (sounding incredulous) Um … think it will work? I mean, really, will it start a conversation?

Creative Editor: I think so. Can’t hurt to try. Right?

Technical Editor: Ok. I guess I’ll get that ready for today.

</ end conversation>

So, Dear Readers, what topic would you like to talk about as we gather ’round the office water cooler that is chickenmonkeydog?

As always, the process of collating the lists for this sort of post brings us great amusement, and at times, concern.

So, here we go …

We hope we are not the only source of reliable information:

what are the risk assessment for an escalator?

a 737 plane

escalator myth busters

eyjafjallajökull

Questions for the commuter:

roman dog likes boys crotch

rapeseed deer

In recent weeks, we’ve noticed that the good people of Greenland don’t seem to know about our fine blog. We’re saddened to think that the 57,600 who call Greenland home should miss out on what we enjoy 5 days per week.

So, this week we have launched Operation Greenland, a strategy to bring the red, yellow and blue of chickenmoneydog to that northern land. We’ve sent a postcard to Greenland’s Tourism Office — that was particularly exciting as we’ve never posted anything to Greenland before. (Have you?) We’re writing this post and we’re working behind the scenes to reach this important audience.

So, if you’re a fan of chickenmonkeydog and you like to help us reach out to the people of Greenland, then we need your email. Email your Greenlander friends. Leave comments on this post addressing your love of all things Greenland.

Dear Readers,

We have some big news to announce today! We wish we could say it is GOOD news, but let’s just say it is BIG!

Our brilliant friend and humorist Meg, who joined CMD as an author just about one year ago, is moving on to see what else the world of online creative writing has to offer. We’ve had an absolute blast having her on board and enjoyed the Meg-twist on our quirky outlook.

Please join us in wishing Meg a fond farewell! We hope she’ll continue to contribute by submitting guest posts (just like all of our readers can, including you)!

And with a flap of the wing, a beating of the chest, and a wag of the tail we at chickenmonkeydog wish Meg all the best!

The new year has been so hectic that we’ve neglected to share our celebrations with our wonderful readers. To correct that, we’re sharing now.

Earlier this month, we celebrated the publication of our 500th post! That’s 500 musings, ponderings and conversations on the little aspects of life that catch us by surprise, make us think or that perhaps, just perhaps, make us say ‘Hmmmm …’.

In thinking about our ’500′, we wondered about other significant 500s. Here’s what we came up with:

Indianapolis 500 – very important to auto-racing fans

500 pennies – not so very valuable anymore

Apparently, the Year 500 was a leap year

Fortune 500 companies are pretty big

So, what other 500s can you add to our list?

P.S. Thanks for hanging with us for the first 500. Here’s to the next 500!

To celebrate chickenmonkeydog’s two year anniversary, the editors have once again sent our foreign correspondent out into the field!

Conall has been assigned a base of Bangalore, but has been tasked with seeking out the quirkiness all over India. If any of you fine readers happen to be in India between now and July, definitely drop Conall a note at chickenmonkeydog [at] gmail [dot] com and maybe you can meet up.

We wish you all the best as we dive right into Year Three of sharing quirkiness on chickenmonkeydog! Thanks for all your wonderful support, readership and, of course, comments!

The chickenmonkeydog community has been growing by leaps and bounds recently – more readers, more comments, more postcard submissions, more guest posts and so it seems the right time to add a new author!

Can you guess who is the new writer?

With four authors now bringing the world to you, you might be wondering … will they need to add another animal? Are the chicken, the monkey, and the dog simply symbolic?

chickenmonkeydog welcomes our new author and is happy that our community continues to grow! We’re very happy to have you all involved – and we love that you contribute so fruitfully with comments and pictures submitted to our email!

While we’re clucking, screeching and barking to welcome the new author, how about a shout out from you to welcome to our newbie? Come on, let us hear you shout!

I had my first nightmare about chickenmonkeydog.com last weekend. In my dream, I had missed a deadline. In a panic, I then ran around desperately trying to find something worth taking a picture of and creating a post. There was nothing suitable to be found, so I crafted an angst-ridden email and sent it to the editors.

Dear Editors,

I realize that I did not submit any material for this week. I have absolutely no ideas for a post. In addition, I believe my last few posts to be sub-par. I think this is a sign that I can no longer be a part of the team. My life is clearly not conducive to coming across weird things on a regular basis. The pressure is too great each week. Please accept my resignation, and thank you for posting what I have done thus far.

The nightmare was so vivid that I spent the next day frequently checking Gmail waiting to see if any reply emails appeared because I couldn’t be sure it was only a dream…
