I thought this sign did a nice job of trying to both shame and threaten you into washing your hands.

Sign advising staff to wash hands

(For accessibility reasons, here’s the content of the sign:
Common decency and the state law health and safety code require that you wash your hands before leaving this room to resume work.)

The sign was posted above the sink in a bathroom in Half-Moon Bay California.

That’s a great sign! I am often amazed by the number of people I see leaving the restroom after NOT washing their hands! Horrifying!

It rather reminds me of the post and subsequent discussion around the number of soap dispensers in this other bathroom. All the subtle and not-so-subtle ways that owners try to reinforce hand-washing etiquette.

I have seen a few other places around town (asides from bathrooms) that I would like to hang that sign. Glad that it does not specify for bathroom use only.

I wonder if folk will be more willing to wash for decency or for fear of the law.

Does anyone actually know anybody who openly claims not to wash their hands? Yet, we all see that guy leaving the loo without washing. How does that happen?

Non-hand-washers of the world, please stand up and identify yourselves!

    @ Liam

I ask the same question about gum chewers. Nobody seems to be willing to take credit for putting chewed gum anywhere other than the trash can, yet the sidewalks and undersides of desks and tables across the world scream out in accusation. The only conclusion to be drawn is that there is a set of people who never chew gum, but who go around pulling it out of waste bins and sticking it in inconvenient places.
