Last week on January 15th, chickenmonkeydog celebrated its first birthday with a birthday post and, as happens now and then, I got to thinking.
If a “birthday suit” is a euphemism for a naked human, then would our “birthday post” be the naked version of chickenmonkeydog?
No covering.
No way to hide.
Caught in-the-raw.
Did we get an unintentional glimpse of the true form of chickenmonkeydog on that special day?
The pathetic artist

Whilst out to dinner in Henley earlier this week, I popped into the restaurant’s loo before heading home for the evening. It was a small one with a standard toilet – no stand-up urinal as the bathroom was for one person at a time.
A sticker on the top of the toilet caught my eye:

It’s important to notice in this less-than-ideal photo (advising against the discarding of large items in the toilet) that the sticker is placed on top of the water tank, behind the seat – and to see/read it, one must be facing the toilet itself.

Again, apologies for the poor quality photo, but if you look closely, you can see that someone has drawn a silly face on the right side of the sticker. Why?! Has this ‘artist’ no better canvas than a warning sticker on the back of a toilet in a restaurant basement?! The ‘artist’ had to lean over the toilet bowl to draw the picture. Why, oh, why would someone ever feel inclined to do that?
Melon for one?

One reader spotted this “personal melon” for sale in a grocery store in Chicago.

After our previous discussion on the meaning of the term “personal items”, we have to wonder, what exactly did the grocer think the personal use of this melon would be?
Thanks to a Chicago reader for contributing the photo for this post.

You know you’re the most powerful person in the world when …

So today is Inauguration Day in the US. Regardless of how you feel about the outgoing and incoming presidents, that the most powerful person in the world peacefully hands power over to the next guy to the be the most powerful person in the world is hugely impressive.
Add to that the fact that there is clearly no nepotism between the 43rd and 44th presidents of the United States, and I think it’s clear that for all its faults, the US really is a special place.
But, that’s not what this post is about. We’re not a political blog. We’re a quirky blog. Read the text in the banner section at the top of the webpage.

So, how do we at chickenmonkeydog measure real power? Well, get your picture on a chocolate bar and then you know you’ve made it to the top!

Yep, the text on the latter image reads: “PREMIUM MILK CHOCOLATE”. Outstanding!
One of the five a day?!

The British government has been pushing a health-focused regimen over the past few years, aimed at encouraging people to eat five portions of fruit and vegetables a day.
So, is this Coca-cola’s attempt to cash in on that campaign?

Come on, really!! Who is Coke kidding?! Do we really buy Coke because it is a ‘sparkling soft drink with vegetable extracts‘? No! We love it because it has loads of sugar (7 teaspoons per can of soda!) and is jack-full of caffeine.
In today’s economy, I can’t blame Coke for giving the whole vegetable approach a go, but geez, even with that in mind, it seems a pretty flimsy claim.
