It was about 7.00 pm as I strolled past a little strip mall. I thought it odd that the butcher was open so late into the evening … until I glanced at the shop next door. Remind anyone else of Sweeney Todd?

On a recent trip to Ireland, one of our editors of rented a car from Hertz. Going to collect the car, our editor was surprised by the important notice pictured below:

Well, isn’t that courteous and helpful? Hertz courteously pays the toll charge for its customers and then helps itself to a bit of extra cash from customers’ pockets. Lovely service, that.
Power shifts

Early this morning, as I was sitting down at the computer for the day, the entire village I call home these days lost power. Nada. Zip. Zilch. Having left to find an alternate workplace for the day, I am just now settling down to work. It’s been an unproductive morning to say the least.
The power outage gave me pause to reflect on how poorly equipped I am to deal with such a minor ‘disaster’ as a power outage. I have no alternate form of energy. No gas-powered generator in garage, no solar panel or wind-turbine on the roof. Maybe a few AA batteries about somewhere, but nothing more significant.
I really do wonder how well I would cope in a real disaster. I am so clueless with a hammer or any tool for that matter, that I would have no ideal how even to build a lean-to shelter.

When the markets move so swiftly and with such power, many of us (including myself) are at a loss as how to invest our dwindling supplies of capital. Luckily, a kindly shopkeeper was good enough to provide not only complimentary advice but also the facilities wherein the take action upon that advice.

You need to look closely now to see the tip …

Please don’t brush off the advice simply because it is written by hand, or posted haphazardly. Just be grateful that the shop owner was willing to share such wisdom with you!
