Steel: The Forgetful Man’s Friend*
Posted 31 Jan 2008
For years, I have suffered a particular habit that causes my wife consternation from time to time as it results in a untidy clean-up required in the freezer. No, nothing perverse or so untoward.
Let me explain.
Discover something your mother never knew
Posted 29 Jan 2008
Recent remodeling at home has left me in the market for a new microwave. After spending a few minutes glancing over the products at our local Home Depot (akin to the UK’s B&Q), I was amused by the advertisements stuck onto the doors of the various models. While the majority were rather mundane, “2.0 Cubic Feet” or “Open Me!”, I particularly enjoyed:
“Discover something your mother never knew.”
But overall, my favorite has to be:

There you have it. A top-notch deal if you ask me, only $239 for a microwave that has built-in capability. Nevermind what the capability is. Don’t you realize? You will finally be freed from hassle of all those other capability-lacking microwaves which require peripherals, upgrades, and add-ons to achieve any sort of capability, this sucker has it built-in right from the start!
Holocaust Memorial Day
Posted 27 Jan 2008
Having just returned from the UK’s national commemoration of Holocaust Memorial Day, I am now spurred into doing what I have meant to do all week: post a note about the importance of Holocaust Memorial Day and the need for us, as individuals to do something to commemorate the death of 6 million Jews and another 5 million others that the Nazis deemed as ‘undesirable’.
To light a virtual candle in remembrance of the victims of the Holocaust and other genocides, please visit: www.hmd.org.uk.
Do it now, before you get distracted.
What would it be like to have a “soundtrack” to your life?
Posted 26 Jan 2008
Life is a movie, starring you, and all the key moments are accentuated by just the right tune at just the right volume at just the right time. Like a movie, life becomes more fun, exhilarating, terrifying and dramatic. iPods (all MP3 players really) have made this dreamworld a reality of sorts, only you’re the only one who hears the music. So you’re the star of the movie, but you’re also the only one watching it. Maybe that’s a good thing though, because most of the songs on your soundtrack are (or were) hit pop songs which have no particular special meaning to the time and the place when you listen to them. The songs are playing because you like the way they sound, but they don’t define the scene, they weren’t composed to unlock the emotions of the experiences, in fact, you’re lucky if the scene and tune are even the same genre. Still, I’m all for it. Even walking down the street is more fun when you’ve got the music rolling. And when I see those people jamming out and walking so rhythmically that I can practically hear the song, I smile, because they know how great it would be to have a real soundtrack to your life.
My soundtrack would definitely include some Spanish guitar music by Ottmar Liebert.
